Creative experiences in nature

Arik Oberrauch, second Maître of the ADLER’s Lodge ALPE, is not only a very professional and motivated employee, but also has a big passion for photography.

Here, ARIK talks about himself and his passion:

To capture people and nature in pictures is the perfect way to hold onto our emotions and share them with others. When I do this, I always try to capture different points of view. The people who view my pictures should be able to feel the experiences that I have gained.
I mostly like to photograph nature and I am blessed to work among the beautiful scenery of the Dolomites. My biggest challenge is to photograph well-known landmarks such as the Sassolungo and the Sassopiatto, but to show them in a slightly different way and from another angle. I love to capture the details and geometries of nature. Picture yourself driving by a beautiful landscape – your eyes will only take in the overall scene. On the other hand, I photograph the details that you can’t see on initial viewing.
In my pictures the focus is on feelings: I do not like to simply take pictures of good weather but much prefer to photograph in foggy conditions or bad weather, as they are more expressive. I also photograph people and I like street photography.

In the Lodge I can combine my work with photography as once a week I go with our guests on a 2-hour photo-hike. Our topic during the hike is “how to make well-known subjects more interesting”. I explain how to photograph and how to shape the picture. We have some guests who use digital single-lens reflex cameras but also others who use their smartphones. It doesn’t really matter: the important thing is having a passion for photography.
For autumn this year I thought it would be a good idea to offer a photo workshop in the hotel. It will run from 10th to 17th November and will be held by my friend, the professional photographer Florian Andergassen. It will not be the type of sophisticated workshop that concentrates on the landscape, but will focus on people with nature as a background, while it will also have a design element. Anybody who is interested in photography should try it. You will learn a new approach to photography and find out how to get the most out of your camera.

Our guests can experience a unique spectacle every day as observers of nature. The Alpe di Siusi always changes, from dawn till dusk. Around us, wherever you look, there is a stunning and atmospheric panorama created by the light and weather, the beauty of the different seasons and the serenity of the natural world. Who can experience the spectacle of nature without feeling a sense of awe?
