Dr Pierfrancesco Sanzone, MD

A general practitioner with integrated training in medicine, sports science, nutrition and cardiovascular and metabolic rehabilitation.

Before graduating in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Palermo and specialising in general practice, I studied Sport and Exercise Sciences – a background that has profoundly shaped my approach to health and the individual.
Over time, I have explored the relationship between exercise, diet and health in greater depth, developing expertise in sports nutrition and its clinical applications, as well as in cardiovascular and metabolic rehabilitation. I view the person as a whole, leading me to an approach that integrates prevention, functional recovery and a focus on quality of life.
My main focus in on the cardiometabolic domain, understood as a balance of cardiovascular function, metabolism, body composition, diet, physical activity and the body’s recovery skills. This perspective has made me aware of the major impact of stress: a hectic life and prolonged pressure can affect sleep, metabolism and cardiovascular balance, undermining the body’s ability to recover.
Chronic low-grade inflammation is an equally insidious factor that needs to be monitored, considering how it intertwines with dietary habits, body composition, sedentary lifestyle, sleep quality and stress. The key is not to zoom in on a single parameter, but to identify lifestyle areas that can be improved to enhance balance, energy levels and well-being over time.
In this context, ADLER offers a valuable opportunity. As you enjoy your stay, you get a chance to slow down, listen to your body and observe your state of health outside your usual routines. Medical assessments, body recomposition, nutrition, exercise and recovery plans can be combined into a programme tailored to your individual needs and goals.
In my view, physical exercise is a cornerstone of medicine: working on cardiorespiratory fitness, strength and body composition also supports various aspects of health. Similarly, nutrition is not just about weight or performance; it is a practical tool for supporting metabolism, recovery and well-being through actionable real-life advice.
