Discover magical spots with the ADLER outdoor programme and our local guides

Introducing you to the natural landscape, culture, atmosphere and flavours of our wonderful destinations is part of our philosophy.

Every season, we offer a diverse outdoor programme that is updated continually to meet the wishes of all our guests. Our enthusiastic local guides are happy to accompany you on your discovery tours to the most popular destinations and the many hidden gems their lands have to offer.

“In the Dolomites, there’s a surprise around every corner,” says Thaddäus, who has been a hiking guide at ADLER Dolomiti & Balance for over 30 years. It was his idea to introduce the ADLER outdoor programmes in 1996 – and it turned out to be a trailblazing idea. Together with Pauli – also one of our historic guides – he is the enthusiastic mind behind our programme of daily hikes. These are offered at two different levels of difficulty – one easy enough for anyone, and the other with longer, more demanding routes. Our programme also includes themed excursions, such as the one dedicated to the Alpine flora and the breath-taking climb to the Rasciesa Alp at sunrise. Verena, our bike guide, will lead you up hill and down dale into the Val Gardena valley – with minimal effort, thanks to our top-notch electric bikes. Our most popular tour? The one leading from Ortisei to the Vallunga valley, passing through the San Giacomo high mountain trail, and back along the cycle path in the valley.

At ADLER Spa Resort Thermae, it is Christina who accompanies our guests on walks and hikes several times a week. Born and bred in Austria, she came to Tuscany for love and she has been carrying in her heart the beauty of this land ever since. She will lead you to ancient villages where time seems to stand still, stopping by at renowned wineries and top food companies to sample the local delicacies along the way. A splendid example is Mulino d’Orcia, a mill where ancient grains are still processed by traditional stone grinding. With its gentle rolling hills, Tuscany is also the perfect destination for cyclists. Mauro and his team are in charge of the cycling programme, which includes tours with electric bikes and gravel bikes. Locally regarded as a pioneer of cycling tourism, for years now Mauro has been the organiser of Granfondo del Brunello, a 52-kilometre amateur bike race. “To immerse yourself into the real essence of a land, there is no healthier, more authentic way than cycling,” he says.

With its spectacular position, ADLER Lodge Alpe on the Alpe di Siusi plateau offers endless possibilities, with 350 kilometres of hiking and cycling paths winding through rolling pastures, craggy peaks and unparalleled panoramic spots. For your outdoor experiences you can count on the friendly help of two enthusiastic professional guides: Erich, who has been working with us since our opening in 2014 and knows the plateau like the back of his hand, and Georg, who has a real passion for our mountains. With their guidance, you will be able to explore Alpe di Siusi’s most spectacular and atmospheric corners, either taking pleasant tours of the local pastures or challenging yourself on high-altitude trails. The climb to Mt. Sciliar with Georg is a must for anyone with a sure foot and a head for heights, while those who prefer a leisurely bike ride should follow Erich on a tour at the foot of Mt. Sassolungo and the Denti di Terrarossa peaks – the view from there is simply majestic.

Klaus and Dominik, the outdoor guides at ADLER Lodge Ritten, invite you on immersive tour into the beautiful vastness of the Renon plateau. From the lodge, a wide variety of routes branching off in every possible direction can be negotiated either on foot or by bike. There is literally something to suit every taste, from easy excursions leading through woods, flower-dotted meadows and chocolate-box villages to high-mountain trails. Our outdoor experts’ recommended tours include, among others, a leisurely hike to the earth pyramids – fascinating natural sculptures dating back to the ice age – and the uphill bike ride to Mt. Corno del Renon, at an altitude of over 2,000 metres. The latter is a challenge you can share with Dominik, a real downhill fiend. No worries, though: we also offer beginner-friendly alternatives, and all your efforts will be rewarded with a delicious Kaiserschmarrn dessert cooked by Klaus.
