Five highlights on the Highplateau of Renon
What you should not miss as a guest of the ADLER Lodge RITTEN. The Renon is not only a place of relaxation, it also offers a variety of attractions and valuable excursion destinations. We have selected five proposals that will thrill you. Have fun discovering them!
THE ROUND TABLE on the panoramic trail to the “Rittner Horn” is probably one of the most spectacular viewing platforms in South Tyrol. The view is overwhelming and stretches from the Dolomites over the main Alpine ridge to the distant Ortler group. The wooden table with cosy resting places is surrounded by a metal band on which the outlines and names of the surrounding mountain peaks are engraved. The Rittner Horn can be reached by cable car or on foot across alpine meadows and mountain pines woods.
EARTH PYRAMIDS are an erosion phenomena from the Ice Age and can be found in three different places on the Ritten. The metre-high earth columns with their bizarre shapes are an expression of the power of nature, which has shaped this unique landscape over thousands of years. Several beautiful hikes from the ADLER Lodge offer the opportunity to marvel at the “wonders of nature”.
THE RITTNER RAILWAY was built in the early 1900s to enable the affluent families of Bolzano to reach their summer residences on the Renon quickly and comfortably. Today, the historic narrow-gauge railway shuttles back and forth between Klobenstein and Oberbozen. The ride offers incomparable views of the surrounding landscape and the Dolomites. From the stop in Oberbozen, a modern cable car leads down into the valley, right into the pulsating heart of the town of Bolzano.
In the BEEKEEPING MUSEUM at the Plattner Farm in Wolfsgruben you can learn everything about the world of bees and the production of honey. You can also gain an insight into the farming culture and way of life of times long past. Outside, a nature trail shows life “from the bees’ point of view”. In the shop you can not only taste delicious honey, but also buy handmade bee products such as honey liqueur, soaps and beeswax candles.
The KEMATER WEIHER is another insider tip! Idyllic and dreamy, it hides between spruces and pines and ensures a protected habitat for frogs, newts, fish and numerous insect species. In the warm season, dozens of water lilies adorn the water surface offering a fascinating sight. A visit to this biotope can also be combined with a hike or bike-tour.
We look forward to a great time out in the heart of South Tyrol!
