From my desk to the runner’s paradise

For me, running is the ideal balance to my work, it reduces stress and permits to leave all the thoughts behind me after a hard day in the office.
I’ve always been a very athletic person but I never had a preference for running, until 4 years ago, when a friend of mine convinced me to participate in the half marathon relay race in Hamburg. Now I am one of those, that can’t get enough of running, though, a few years ago I couldn’t imagine competing for a running race.

For me, running is the ideal balance to my work, it reduces stress and permits to leave all the thoughts behind me after a hard day in the office. And, is there anything better than running on the Alpe di Siusi, the place where I grew up and spent my whole childhood? The running park here offers 20 different trails with all levels of difficulty, for a total length of 180 km on an altitude between 900 and 2.300m.

Furthermore, you can enjoy fresh and healthy alpine air, quietness and a unique stunning panorama. An authentic paradise for runners, a few steps away from the own working place - what more to wish for? In fact, the continuous up and downs and altitude changes require a major effort but at the same time it permits to increase the own performance enormously and develop the necessary mental strength needed during races. Keeping the stride with other runners and climbing mountains without being out of breath, are the most motivating factors for me to keep on training and fighting to get better and better.

At the end of April, I participated in my first half marathon in Hamburg. To cut the finish line exhausted but happy has been an overwhelming experience that cost me some tears. The next sport highlight is already around the corner: The Half Marathon on the Alpe di Siusi - a unique event for its 601 meters height difference and thus an important challenge. Through blooming lawns on the feet of the majestic rocky walls of Sassolungo, Sassopiatto and Sciliar, the trail reaches the highest point, The Golden Point (2050m), and then descends until the town of Compaccio, where the race ends. The competition will take place on the 1st of July, 700 participants from all over the world will attend, experts and amateurs alike. Among them, the Kenyan runners will surely stand out as they will – being off-race – run next to the participants and motivate them. World famous athletes choose the run on the Alpe di Siusi as it's an ideal training for their autumn marathons.
In the meantime, also for me the training session has already started. I tie up my running shoes after work, attending day after day the awakening of nature after the thawing. Whether racing or not, running will continue to be an amusement for me. A healthy diversion and movement, surrounded by nature. This is the reason why I can’t wait to accompany our guests this summer to our morning runs, through the immaculate landscapes of the Alpe di Siusi.
