The magic alpenglow
One of my favorite moments here at the Lodge is when...
When the day slowly comes to an end and from our window you can admire the fabulous natural phenomenon of the alpenglow – this is one of my favorite moments here at the Lodge.
In autumn, starting from mid September, right before the sun goes down, the peaks of the Dolomites take on a reddish color. The rock walls glow and the Sassolungo literally seems to be on fire. This fascinating spectacle of colors ranges from light orange nuances to intensive red and violet shades. Although this unique and breathtaking play of colors only lasts a few minutes it is a very special moment, day after day. The Enrosadira makes me relax, sets my mind free and reminds myself daily, how thankful I am to be up here on the Alpe di Siusi.
Enrosadira is the ladin term for alpenglow. The special combination of calcium and magnesium carbonate of the Dolomite rock favors a special reflection of the evening light creating this extraordinary natural spectacle.
It doesn’t surprise me, that many of our guest stand up during dinner to take admire and to take a picture of the unique and breathtaking scenery. Moments like this need to be eternalized!
