The milestones in the ADLER history

The starting point – our first hotel in Ortisei

It all started in 1810, when Josef Anton Sanoner bought a small inn in Ortisei called “Zum Adler”. Over several generations, the inn developed into a luxury hotel renowned far beyond the borders of the region. Things took a decisive turn in the 1980s, when Andreas and Klaus Sanoner, with their wives Verena and Karin, took over the hotel and had extensive renovation and extension works carried out. They also developed a brand-new hotel concept, which made ADLER into one of the first spa resorts in the Alps.

From a family-run hotel to a family-run business

The next steps launched the ADLER brand beyond the borders of South Tyrol. ADLER Spa Resort THERMAE in Val d’Orcia was inaugurated in 2004, followed in 2008 by the ADLER BALANCE health resort near the original premises in Ortisei. Soon after that, the idea of creating a collection of retreats tucked away in nature bore its first fruit with ADLER Lodge ALPE, which was inaugurated on Alpe di Siusi in 2014. The second ADLER Lodge, built on the Renon plateau, was added in 2019. Then, the idea for the first beachfront ADLER resort took shape. This was an ambitious project, where the seventh generation of the Sanoner family, Franziska, Moritz, Lukas and Maximilian, actively joined in the planning and implementation phases. Thanks to their contribution, ADLER Spa Resort SICILIA opened for its first season in July 2022. And it was a success.
